Georgia and Ukraine to Intensify Cooperation in Sphere of Education and Science

Bilateral meeting between Giorgi Sharvashidze, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia and Serhiy Kvit, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine took place on May 14 within the European Higher Education Area Ministerial Conference and 4th Bologna Policy Forum.


At the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to cooperate in the sphere of education and science. The Minister talked about the amendments made in legislation in terms of higher education, specifically, Doctoral 4-year programme will replace the Postgraduate studies. The Ukrainian side stressed the financial difficulties that education system faces due to the ongoing war.


The Georgian side emphasized that in the scope of young scientists support, Georgia hosts the sixty Ukrainian trainers. Prospects of cooperation within the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation - Horizon 2020- were discussed as well.


The head of Georgian Delegation, Mr. Sharvashidze expressed his willingness to cooperate in such areas as science and education quality assurance. The Georgian side discussed the operational aspects of the branches of Ukrainian Universities on Georgian territory and expressed the concern regarding the unlicensed ones. Ukraine has committed itself to provide the information on the status of Ukrainian Universities to the Georgian side.


The Deputy Minister underlined the Georgian aspiration to support the further development Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in the sphere of life sciences, technologies and engineering (STEM). 
At the end of the meeting, Deputy Minister extended the invitation to Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine.
