Promoting implementation in practice of the procedure of recognition of education received by refugees (persons with international protection status)

In order to promote the implementation of the Lisbon Convention and improve the recognition mechanisms of education by refugees, LEPL - the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement is implementing a project "Promoting implementation procedures in practice for the recognition of education received by refugees”, within the framework of the grant program of the Council of Europe.  It should be noted that the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement obtained this grant within the framework of the small grant competition, announced by the Council of Europe. The grant competition was aimed to support the process of implementation of Lisbon Convention for the countries of   the National Information Centre (ENIC) included in the Council of Europe’s education program (Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Vatican City, Kazakhstan, Monaco, Montenegro, Republic of Moldova, San Marino, Ukraine, Great Britain Centers).

 

On behalf of Georgia, the Center participated in the grant competition and submitted the following project - "Promoting implementation procedures in practice for the recognition of education received by refugees (persons with international protection status)".  The grant application presented by the Center received the highest scores by the Competition Commission of the Council of Europe and the Center received a full grant for implementing the project.

 

The project is developed to support the policy, mechanisms and procedures of recognition of education received by refugees (a person with the status of international protection, an asylum seeker, or a person of similar status as a refugee) and to review the legislative framework of Georgia in this direction. The project has a twofold purpose: it promotes the education system of Georgia, especially the recognition of education, to be in accordance with the commitments of the Lisbon Recognition Convention (LRC). and the project aims to support the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE) as institution to promote recognition mechanisms and procedures effectively.

 

Within the framework of the project implementation, the NCEQE conducts the best international practice on the issues of recognition of education received by refugees, assesses the readiness of Higher Educational Institutions in terms of accomplish the procedures. based on the results of the research findings a guide will be developed and trainings will be held for Higher Education Institutions and stakeholders, brochures will be prepared and distributed to the relevant parties and potential applicants.

 

The project implementation period is March-November 2023.
