European Quality Assurance in Vocational Education and Training (EQAVET)
In 2024, Georgia, as an EU candidate country, has become a member a full member of the EQAVET (European Quality Assurance Network for Vocational Education and Training) network.
In 2009, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union adopted a recommendation on the European Quality Assurance Reference Framework for Vocational Education and Training and relevant indicators (EQAVET-EQARF). Using these indicators, an institution/system can measure its level of success/failure. EQAVET represents a European framework designed to support quality assurance in Vocational Education and Training. Its main goal is to improve the quality, relevance, and attractiveness of Vocational Education. Furthermore, the EQAVET network is a collaborative platform that supports high-quality Vocational Education across Europe, which contributes to the strengthening of a qualified workforce and economic development.
In the process of strengthening the Vocational Education quality assurance system, the sharing the best European practices is of particular importance for Georgia. With its goal, the quality assessment of the Vocational Education system is underway according to EQAVET indicators. The ongoing integration of eight EQAVET indicators into authorization standards will contribute to aligning with European quality assurance practices. (In total, EQAVET indicators include 10 components).
The mentioned 10 quality assurance mechanisms and their sub-indicators, developed by the EQAVET are used to assess or address key issues such as the relevance of the quality of education, its effectiveness, national or systemic significance, usefulness and the transparency of the policies or programs used. Vocational Education system across the country and its effective operation, highlighting once more the significance of examining them thoroughly.
Since 2024, Georgia has been a member of the European Quality Assurance Network for Vocational Education and Training (EQAVET), which creates more opportunities for the implementation of these indicators, however, in 2022-2023, the country conducted a pilot assessment of the progress of the Vocational Education system using several EQAVET indicators. Georgia's membership in the EQAVET network is an important step towards improving the Vocational Education system and aligning it with European standards, thereby strengthening its position in the international educational space.
