In order to recognize the education received abroad, the Center verifies the authenticity of the educational document issued by the foreign institution and determines the correspondence of the qualification reflected in the educational document with the qualifications existing in Georgia. Verification of authenticity means whether an educational document has been issued in the name of a person indicated in that document, and if the educational institution issuing the document is recognized by the legislation of the country where this institution carries out educational activities. Accordingly, the certificate of recognition of a foreign educational institution issued by the Center is one of the positive, however, incomplete preconditions for the recognition of education received abroad.
In the absence of educational documentation, a student's legal representative can apply to the Center to request documentation from abroad. The application must fully indicate the exact name and location of the educational institution. If the documents proving the general education received by a student abroad have not been found within the time limit set for the administrative proceedings, the Center will make a decision on the refusal of the person to recognize the education received abroad within the general education programme. In such a case, a student will be enrolled in a general education institution at an age-appropriate level or in a lower grade with parental consent.
