On the initiative of the Higher Education Quality Assurance Department of the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, an online workshop was held on March the 31st, 2023 on the updated subject benchmark statement of higher education in medicine.
The Deputy Director of the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, Lasha Margishvili, representatives of the Higher Education Quality Assurance Department of the Center, representatives of higher education institutions, field experts and invited members of the Accreditation Council of Higher Educational Programmes attended the workshop.
The workshop presenter, Ms. Gayane Simonia, the Head of the Department of Medical Education, Research and Strategic Development of LEPL Tbilisi State Medical University, Professor in the Department of Geriatrics, Chairperson of the Sectoral Council of Medicine and Member of the Authorization Council for Higher Education Institutions, spoke about the renewed subject benchmarks of higher education in medicine. Professor Simonia discussed the main aspects and features of the updated subject benchmark; proper perception of these aspects is important for promoting a uniform understanding of the document by all interested parties and for avoiding different interpretations.
The following issues were discussed in details during the workshop: The specificity of implementation of the subject benchmark of medicine in practice, the legal matters relevant to the implementation of the updated subject benchmark in practice, the connection of the updated subject benchmark with the requirements of international accreditation, material and human resources required to provide the educational programme, teaching and assessment methods, teaching-learning and administration specifics of clinical training and courses, and changes in the implementation of the existing requirements and the OSCE.
